From reading around on this page I learned that it can sometimes to get the student’s parents into the idea of a classroom blog. They may not be familiar with the technology or idea of a blog. I think that it would be important to slowly introduce the blog to families at the beginning of the year. Then I think once they get used to checking the classroom blog that they will warm up to checking it more frequently. A couple of the classroom blogs that I found to be interesting were:

Mr. C’s Class Blog It was a great blog that showed teachers and students how to use technology in the classroom. It was a very helpful website with examples and tutorials.

Sunny Days in Second Grade This was a fun and creative blog for a second grade class. I really liked how the teacher used it to communicate with parents. It seemed that this is how they shared weekly news with the families. It is also is a great way that the teacher could share information with the parents about stuff that can’t just be sent home in a “Friday folder.”

ZCS 7th Grade this was another great blog that I found for 7th graders. I really liked how the announcements were posted to the blog. We all know that 7th graders are not always pay attention to us during class, and this would be a great way for them to go back and check if they missed something.

I will use blogging in my future classroom for communication purposes. I think that it will be great to share with my students, parents, faculty, and district what my students are doing. You can’t always capture what students are leaning in handout so I think the blog would allow me to post videos and pictures. Maintaining a blog would also be much more inexpensive to my compared to printing pictures all the time.
